Class of 1965 Scholarship

What is the mission and vision of the Class Scholarship?

As noted in the Dollars for Scholars Site, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste." Our mission is To encourage post secondary education for all students through strong Dollars for Scholars scholarship support.

Where did this idea start?

One of our members was writing their will and found that Pembroke High School had no vehicle for leaving a Bequest to the school in their will. One of the answers was development of Dollars for Scholars and the second was the birth of the Class of 1965 Scholarship. This was the first 'class' scholarship outside of the alumni association that exists for the Graduates of Corfu-Pembroke High School.

How do you plan for the Scholarship?

As a guideline, we are trying to develop a plan where funds will be available in the future for a scholarship each June. Paul Mroz and Shirley 'Kruger' Williamson chair this project. We work with the Dollars For Scholars group at Corfu-Pembroke, Charted in June 2008 and help plan an Awards Policy and technique to raise scholarship Money,

Who represents us on the DFS Board?

The Corfu-Pembroke Dollars for Scholars was charted as NY3200 on June 22, 2008. Two members of our class were on that initial committee. Arthur W Mruczek served as President and Linda "Lewis" Rindell served as Vice-President. They are recognized by the Board of Education and participate along with several groups that have developed pass thru scholarships and funded speciality scholarships. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software
