Medical Education - JCAHPO®Staff Picnic

The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO®) was established as a not-for-profit organization in 1969 to offer certification and continuing education opportunities to ophthalmic allied health personnel. Since then, more than 25,000 people in the U.S., Canada, and around the world have earned JCAHPO certification.

We are proud of our JCAHPO® Certified Staff. Each of them study independently to meet the challenges of a career as a Eye Assistant.

Mission

JCAHPO's mission is to enhance the quality and availability of ophthalmic patient care by promoting the value of qualified allied health personnel and by providing certification and education.

In pursuit of its mission, JCAHPO will bring results in four areas:

  1. Development of standards of conduct, examination, certification, and recertification of ophthalmic medical personnel;
  2. Development of continuing education and services for allied health personnel in ophthalmology;
  3. Provide a forum for ophthalmic-related organizations to collaborate;
  4. Support of the accreditation process for medical programs for training and education of allied health personnel in ophthalmology.

Lake Plains Eye Center Staff

JCAHPO began certifying ophthalmic medical personnel in 1969. The LPEC staff has discovered the benefits of being certified. There is considerable evidence that certified ophthalmic assistants, technicians, and technologists increase productivity, patient satisfaction, and practice efficiency.

Each of our staff is JCAHPO Certified. The newest Members of the Technical Team have been employed at LPEC for 9 years. Several members of the team have over 30 years experience in Ophthalmology.

What is an Ophthalmic Technician?

An Ophthalmic tehnician is a person who worked with an eye doctor to provide patient care by performing many different eye related clinical functions. Ophthalmic technicians help eye doctors care for patients by taking histories, performing various procedures and test, and preparing patients to see the doctor. Their work provides the eye doctor with important information to help diagnose and treat the patients.
